Trends in Language Acquisition Research (TiLAR)

Trends in Language Acquisition Research (TiLAR) was started as an IASCL-sponsored book series by Annick De Houwer and Steven Gillis in 1999.

The TiLAR series is published by John Benjamins, although it is no longer sponsored by the IASCL. It is a premier outlet for child language research: "TiLAR publishes monographs, edited volumes and text books on theoretical and methodological issues in the field of child language research. The focus of the series is on original research on all aspects of the scientific study of language behavior in children, linking different areas of research including linguistics, psychology & cognitive science".

So far (February 2023) 32 volumes have been published. Annick De Houwer and Steven Gillis were Series Editors until 2008 (volumes 1-6), after which Shanley Allen and Caroline Rowland took over (volumes 7-23). Evan Kidd took over from Caroline Rowland in 2018 (as of volume 24).

For book proposals please contact one of the series editors: Shanley Allen, Evan Kidd, or the publisher.

Call for Monographs and Edited Volumes

The TiLAR editors Shanley Allen and Evan Kidd have opened a general call for monographs and edited volumes on all topics covering issues in child language acquisition. They are especially looking for volumes with state-of-the-art collections of papers that synthesise research on specific languages and language families. This aims to provide an avenue to promote past work on languages that have received less attention in the literature, thus highlighting the value of language diversity to our discipline. Their goal is to publish several such volumes in 2025 and beyond to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the publication of Slobin’s seminal Crosslinguistic Study of Language Acquisition series.

Potential authors and editors are encourages to contact the editors at allen@rptu.de or evan.kidd@anu.edu.au. The John Benjamins guide for book proposals can be found here: https://benjamins.com/content/authors/bookproposals.
